New Carnival Cruise Ship “Liberty” Launches
With Mediterranean Itinerary
by Roy Witman © 2008
Something has been missing from the Carnival
cruise ship lineup for years. While the Carnival cruise
company has long been known for creating some of
the most thrilling destination packages in the
business, they've never ventured into the
Mediterranean. That is, not until now!
This newly christened ship (the Carnival cruise
ship “Liberty”) will take you to thrilling European
destinations. Slated for her maiden voyage July 20,
2005, “Liberty” will bring eight new 12-day
excursions. Travelers can look forward to a new
cost-effective way to see Europe including such
beautiful and historic ports as Naples, Italy;
Barcelona, Spain; Cannes, France and more.
The “Liberty” will also operate a 16-day,
transatlantic voyage departing from Rome
(Civitavecchia) and arriving at Fort Lauderdale,
Florida. Ports of call on this Carnival cruise will be
Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca and Malaga, Spain;
Funchal (Madeira), Portugal, and St.
Maarten, Netherlands Antilles.
In addition, Carnival's “Liberty” is scheduled to
sail into the Bahamas and the Caribbean departing
from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, starting this November.
These six- and eight-day tours will visit George
Town, Grand Cayman; Cozumel, Mexico; Freeport and
Nassau, Bahamas; San Juan, Puerto Rico; St.
Thomas/St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands; Antigua, Lesser
Antilles; Tortola/Virgin Gorda, British Virgin Islands;
Limon, Costa Rica, and Colon, Panama.
In between ports, passengers can enjoy a truly
luxurious vessel whose interior design boasts the fine
craftsmen of Europe. Ironwork, masonry, pottery
and painting are central elements found throughout
the design schemes of “Liberty,” bringing to life the
best “the Med ” has to offer.
Travelers will enjoy innovative additions to this
new Carnival cruise ship such as body art in the
Tattoos Dance Club, distinctive tableware (inspired
by jeweler Harry Winston) in Harry's - a reservations-
only supper club - and expansive children's and teen
facilities.
Rather be outdoors? A 1400-seat poolside café
and the Seaside Theater (with its 12-foot high, 22-
foot wide, giant screen LCD TV) are available. This
70,000-watt system delivers concert quality sound
whether showing movies, sporting events or music
performances. And no movie would be complete
without oversized lounge chairs, drink specials,
popcorn and more? How about a movie star?
Oscar-winning actress Mira Sorvino has been
named godmother of this newest Carnival cruise
ship. Sorvino has appeared in such blockbuster films
as “Mighty Aphrodite,” “Romy and Michele's High
School Reunion,” “Barcelona” and “Quiz Show.” She is
a talented actress and diligent activist with
organizations such as Stop Violence Against Women
and Amnesty International. Carnival Cruise Lines is
honored to have Sorvino onboard.
